It is important that the children have an opportunity each morning to eat a healthy snack. In our Montessori classroom, a table will be prepared each day where the children can enjoy a snack. Our snack table is more than just a way to meet their nutritional needs. In a Montessori setting the snack is part of our grace and courtesy curriculum. It reinforces manners, taking turns, thinking of their classmates’ needs in preparing the place setting for the next person. The children also need to remember other details such as washing hands, placing a napkin in their lap, passing a pitcher of water and other important routines. We ask that each MVM family bring enough snack for all of the children for two weeks. Here is a list of some healthy snack ideas as well as a snack schedule for you to choose from. Please let us know if your child has dietary restrictions.

Here is a list of some healthy snack ideas

  • Crackers and cheese
  • Crackers and peanut butter (sprinkled with coconut, raisins, dates, etc)
  • 1/2 slice whole wheat bread with peanut butter/honey/cheese
  • Dried fruits such as raisins, dates, peaches, apples, pineapple, etc.
  • Nuts
  • Sunflower seeds
  • 'Ants on a Log' (celery sticks stuffed with peanut butter and topped with raisins)
  • Fresh veggie slices and sticks (carrots, celery cucumbers, green peppers, cauliflower, broccoli, cherry tomatoes, ...)
  • Celery sticks stuffed with cream cheese
  • Dip for veggies is difficult but can be done with individual tiny serving cups
  • Fresh fruit slices or sections
  • Fruit kabobs or melon cubes
  • Apple slices or rings with dabs of peanut butter
  • Fruit salad in individual serving cups

  • Cheese cubes
  • Salami cubes or slices
  • Small pizza slices
  • Pretzels
  • Popcorn
  • Pickles and/or olives
  • Granola bars
  • Granola in individual serving cups
  • Deviled egg halves
  • Yogurt and fresh fruit in small serving cups
  • Sweet breads (with cream cheese) such as banana, zucchini, pumpkin, date, etc.
  • Cheddar Cheese Fish
